Well, we've been so busy at my house after our younger son had the impaction that I haven't been able to post much. Anyway, got 3 gloats to pass along.
1. Took the tax refund this year and bought a refurbed MacBook for SWMBO. I know, never buy the wife something that has to be plugged in. This thing has batteries.
She is loving it. 2GHz w/80GB hard drive, Combo Drive, 13.3" screen. Just as soon as we got it, we upgraded to 2GB RAM. She now toucher that thing more than me.
We got it in while the son was in the hospital. Only complaint is the screen size when working in Illustrator or Photoshop. We'll fix that with an external monitor.
2. A bank in the building was getting rid of OLD data center equipment. I picked up an old DataTel server rack for free. I think it is a 48U model. Has a plexiglass door on the front. It is now in my shop. I'm going to seal it and then make some shelves for it to store some of the things I don't want saw dust getting on, such as my chainsaw, etc. It was a bear to get home, but the price is right.
3. Finally, a tool gloat. I finally got a new circular saw. Based partially upon Tom Hintz' review, I bought the Craftsman Pro with Freud blade. Only used it on the dog house so far, but I'm very pleased. Wife knows I got it, and knew I needed it. What she doesn't know is the price. I plan on keeping it that way for a while. Blade is very nice, and saw is very powerful. It cut through 2x4's without batting an eye. First thing I did was make a basic cutting sled for it. Will make a better one later, but now I see why they are so popular. Perfect cut every time (except the one time I misread the tape
).
Well, that's all the gloats for now. Still hoping to eventually gloat over an HF dust collector. Then again, I've still got to clean the shop before I can get one.
