    Firefox help!

Here I was typing a reply to post and silly me I wanted to use my apostrophe key (') and a "quick find" bar magically appeared at the bottom of my open window. This happened while using the quick reply option.

Any ideas on the exact steps needed to disable and or remove this annoyance from firefox? My version is 2.0.0.14 I'd like step by step as it has been so long since I made any tweaks to the source code that I do not even remember how to find it.

    TIA

Sounds like an alternate key function that you may have accidentally initiated with the "Alt" or "Ctrl" key or some such combination. Some programs are loaded with such keyboard aliases.

Aha! the "/" key and the apostrophe key initiate the "quick find" function, according to Firefox online help. These keys are right next to each other, so "big-fingered" folks can probably expect this to happen once in a while... (Or maybe your PB&J sandwich spooged your keyboard...)

Wow, that is actually very handy to know. and it appears to be disabled if you are actively typing in the text area?

If you're in the quick reply box you can type whatever you want. The moment the focus leaves the quick reply box - say to click on a quote to copy it - then the firefox shortcuts take over. You can see a list of the shortcuts here. Note that ' only searches links, not regular text.

I have used Firefox for quite a while, never had any prioblems, but then again, I have a Mac.

Here's something else to look out for with FF: If you highlight a word and drag it to a new tab, FF will do its best to locate a website that matches the word.

I learned this the hard way -- accidentally dragging and dropping a part of some random word during a meeting and ending up looking at a porn site. Took me a while to figure out what happened, too...
