    I want one!

I don't think this has been posted here before, apologies if it has.

    Have a look at

    http://www.silverbrookresearch.com/l-en/technology.html

and bear in mind that the only reason they stopped developing the printer speed past 60 pages per minute was because they couldn't move the paper fast enough!

The video clips are impressive, as is the technology.

This is indeed some VERY impressive technology. I especially like that mobile
phone sized printer. I'll be curious to see how long those print heads last and
how much it will really cost to print. If one jet goes out, it will be like an LCD
screen with one of those dead pixels except you'll just have one uncolored
    line on your printout.

I work in a pseudo-pharmaceutical and went to a conference last year where
I sat next to an RD guy from Hewlett-Packard. HP isn't known for it's
scientific equipment so I asked him what he was doing there. The conference
was focused on aucoustic based liquid dispensing technology. Our field is
always miniaturizing to save cost and increase throughput. He was listening
in because he was thinking of having HP modify their inkjet tech to dispense
biological reagents. If this Memjet could do it, our throughput would be
    through the roof!

That equipment is amazing. I remember when scanners came out how cool. Then when the all-in-one's came out even cooler. When LOML got into digital pictures, she got a newfangled photo printer that does a great job. Kinda wonder where it's all going to go one day. Just a few years ago, I would have laughed out loud if someone said there would be a camera phone, and it could have a keyboard. I'm remembering my first phone...the brick. Heck, my big amazement with that was the advanced brick called the "classic", and the "new" stubby antenna.

I have to also think that these require an extremely fast drying ink unless they are laser. That still requires toner doesn't it?
I know my Brother all in one ink jet prints very slowly on transparent decal paper. Perhaps 4 minutes per sheet. I am certain some of this speed is due to ink dry factor. I print the decals in highest quality, so it gets lots of ink.

In contrast, it probably prints 8 B&W pages in a minute. My laser does about 20 to 25.

What floored me was the larger signage printer. These are typically fairly slow, but that one spits it on outta there.

60PPM? The clock was at 40 seconds when it ran out of paper = 90PPM if you can feed it!

Ok, that's impressive, but what I really want is a 3D printer, then when I visit one of those porno sites.......

Yeah, but what RIP can handle that? I have a couple of sign shops as customers. They both use printers that can run 8+ foot wide stock. The RIP's are high-end dual Xeon machines as it is.
