More trivia--do you know who this is?

Hints: she was a writer and actress, among other things. Her memoirs are the subject of a very popular Broadway musical. She was born in Seattle WA with the given name Louise Hovick.

If you still don't know, here's a clip of her: http://youtube.com/watch?v=a-jEKVq38bY.

There were at least a couple of famous strippers (just in the USA alone). So forgive me if I get this wrong, but wasn't she the one that had the infamous affair with the Texas govenor?

Or was that ones name Starr?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I had no clue who she was, but googled my way to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsy_Rose_Lee, and found a personally interesting note.

According to it, the word ecdysiast was coined by HL Mencken just to describe what this lady did for a profession.

As a youngster many years ago, I came across this word somewhere and learnt that it mean strip-tease-artist.

Most probably I must have been looking for stuff on strip-tease artists and stumbled onto this word. Those were pre-internet, pre-google days, and how I pity my young, ummm, always-excited self for the minimal ways we could find such material...!

Anyways, that point onwards, ecdysiast became my benchmark for judging a dictionary. Any dictionary I found, I'd search for this word, and if absent, pronounce it inadequate !

Try it - if your dictionary at home does not have it, you need to buy another one .

And oh, ummm, what was the original question...?
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Duff, you're not supposed to guess it right so quickly! I was fascinated by what I read about her. She had quite a life, unfortunately died rather young.

If that clip on YouTube is any indication, she was quite a performer who didn't need to show everything all at once to get her audience's heart rate going.

That would be Blaze Starr! She was involved with LA Gov Earl Long.

One of the best Paul Newman movies, IMHO, was 'Blaze'. It's a hoot.

Newman plays a horny old dude to perfection. Sort of like Spitzer, only with a personality.

Jeff, you need to rename the file before you post it. I knew who she was, and I'm not that smart. I just know how to right-click, select properties...
