Is there anything a cat won't lay or sit on??

I'm serious now. I've got one window I can see from my easy chair and office chair. That window is where I put my hummingbird feeder, it is also a favorite (year round) spot for one of my cats. You see the oil and water thing here?
I'd like to put something on the outside window sill that the cat won't sit on. Thought about a bed of nails but don't really want to hurt the cat on it's first leap. This sounds goofy but short of getting rid of the cat I'd like to keep the hummingbirds coming to the feeder and not make the window look like h*ll. Thanks, Pat

Well, that's like putting a football game on a TV outside a women's dressing room and trying to keep the men waiting for their wives from watching - sorry if that is a sexist remark!

We have three cats and they see every attempt to keep them off of something as just a challenge to overcome. I think one of my cats has the goal of reaching the ceiling - he keeps getting on the highest thing he can find and looks at the ceiling - he is clearly plotting something.

To answer your question - finally - I know there are things you can buy that will make a sound when the cat lands on it that is supposed to scare them off. Something like this:

You could also try tin foil or spraying something with citrus in it as I have heard that works for some people - not for our cats - see "challenge" earlier.

    Good luck!

A few details might help, like:

What's the sill size, shape, material?

Where is the feeder in relation to the sill?

      Can you post a pic?
      .

Cats dislike tape so if you put down some double sided tape it will stop them. Plus it will look a lot better than a bed of nails...

I second the tape, we used to put double sided tape on our furniture edges when ours were kittens to stop them sctraching.

Thanks, I'll get some tape and try it this afternoon. I was gonna get one of those green grass scratchy door mats but.... I found a cat snuggled up on the door step so that went out the window Pat

Tape does indeed work, usually! Keep it renewed so its sticky. The cat "might" learn to stay away after some time. The spray-on repel stuff for cats doesn't unless you spray it 2-3 times a day.

Remove the window sill!!.......... Just joking,..... but how about putting a slope on it somehow or rather. Is that possible?

My cat liked to sleep in the middle of one of my large house plants. She was flattening out (not the way I thought it should look). I put a mouse trap in the plant. She only tripped it one time. I left it in there for a couple of weeks. That was several years ago she still doesn't go in there.

Mouse traps will also keep the dog off of the couch. The only down side is company might think you have a really bad rodent problem with traps all around.
