    Leavin' On A Jet Plane

But I know when I'll be back again.

This morning my team lead asks me to cover a conf. call for another guy who is on vacation. 'Just routine' sez he. 'All you need to do is listen'. Whelp, apparently last night things went to **** (not in a handbasket) cause next thing I know I am being asked to fly to Cleveland. Oh goody. They wanted me to leave tomorrow but I am not leaving till Sunday evening so at least the weekend is not totally trashed.

Cleveland, the mistake on the lake. I have been there once in my life and it was also IT related. I did IT in the healthcare field for a while, all proprietary systems. One weekend I was on call for another tech. Little did I know that his territory went all the way to there. It was a territory I had never covered and I was also told, "He had a quiet area, very few calls and the farthest you will go will be Richmond." (About an hour or so away from my home)

About 11:30pm my Blackberry goes haywire and the calls are for Cleveland. RAID failure on the main console/server, in Cleveland. Up until that point I did not even know I was covering that far East. I get up and splash some water on my face, Blackberry goes off again. Workstation failure, same place. It keeps going off. More stuff keeps failing. I finally load up every part in my inventory and head out. I ended up replacing half the hard drives we had active in the place and reimaging almost all the rest. I even went down to the loading dock and pilfered some parts off machines that were crated up to be sent back to San Diego from a refit.

Apparently I was the only technician not on vacation East of the Mississippi. 26 hours later (if I remember correctly) I finally was back home and able to finish my slumber. I will never go back to Cleveland again. I hope your trip is better than mine was.

Just in time David. We were supposed to get snow, but they said it would miss us. Cleveland will get what missed us, plus whatever was headed to Buffalo.

Hope you booked American. They will probably cancel the flight.

I moved to Cleveland from the Buffalo area to go to college and ended staying there for 10 years. Now I live in FL and take delight in calling my friends and brother who still live up there and telling them it got so cold I had to put on jeans.
