    High Blood Pressure.

Have any of you guys/gals been diagnosed with high blood pressure?

If so, do you remember how you felt health wise prior to treatment?

I have been feeling like crap for the past month but figured it was a lingering flu/cold that I had in March. The last few days, my face felt really flushed with mild head aches, and felt a throbbing throughout my entire body.

Went to the doc today, and he said "high blood pressure". I think he said 150 over 100 for pressure. I Gotta knock off the beer and smokes, and get in some physical activity. I go to see a specialist on Tues.

I have been wanting to quit smoking for a while, and I think this scare will finally put me over the edge.

I remember feeling really stressed with lots of headaches. I've been taking Atenolol for HBP for ~ 10 years now....feel much better in general. Good luck!
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

This may sound a little familiar, but I didn't have a regular physical from my ETS (1970) to about 2000. I was urged by LOML to get a primary physician after I got covered on her insurance. On my first visit, my BP was 190/130. They took it 4 different times to make sure. I got a shot of something on the spot and was told to see a cardiologist right away, and got a prescription for some drugs. At the time I felt fine, no symptoms of anything except a dislike for filling out forms.

After my first visit with the cardiologist, I found out that I had an irregular heartbeat and had a heart attack of sorts probably some time in the previous 10 years. I've been on meds since, and haven't kicked off yet. I tire easily, and have no problem sleeping.

I bought a wrist mount digital blood pressure monitor, that I use daily, it's as accurate as the professional cuff/and stethoscope my wife has (she's a nurse).

I was once diagnosed with hypertension. My doctor recommended divorce. It worked. No more hypertension. Now I just give it to other people...

I've been on Lotrel and HCL for about 4 years. The only symptoms I had were a feeling of light-headedness for a couple of minutes after standing up quickly. I was running, on average, about 145/95.

Never smoked, 61 years old, 190 lbs., 6'2" and I'd average a few beers a week.

Meds now keep me right at 120/70. So I upped my beer consumption.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Lmao!! That's hilarious! And it sounds like what my line of thinking will be when I get the same diagnosis. (all my grandparents had HBP)

Chantix has been pretty successful at helping to quit smoking.

No symptoms for me but not quite "high" blood pressure, I was seeing 140s/90s whenever I'd see a doc over the last few years. Bad genes for me as I'm not overweight, I exercise, don't drink, don't smoke, not a big salt user, not even 40 years old yet, etc... I'm now on lisinopril.

I have been on Atenolol since my bypass surgery about 15 years ago and my Doc added Amlodipine last year. I was at the high end of safe before the Amlodipine and am now down where I should be. Feel great for 70.

Doc has me on Atenolol and 81mg Asprin for my BP and it works My BP was 135/82 and now it is much better something like 110/74 or something like that. Being almost 66 and having an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm the Doctor is being real careful with the BP and having the Aneurysm checked every 6months. So far in almost 2 years since it was discovered it hasn't grown. The one I have noticed since being on the BP meds and Asprin is when I cut myself it takes awhile for the bleeding to stop, which hasn't alway been the case.

Mine's elevated and the docs have pestered me from time to time to go on medication. Since I hate taking pills, I have resisted, but I was able to improve things by losing 15 pounds and getting regular exercise. We're not vegetarians but we eat healthy.

Meds will clearly help with the blood pressure but cutting out the smokes, getting some exercise and eating right will also help you feel better. Take the steps two at a time, walk around the block, or (carefully) split wood the old way instead of using a machine .

I agree -- lose weight, exercise, and if it's still high, take your meds. Possible consequences: heart attack, stroke.

FYI, the average # of meds for people with high blood pressure in their 50's is 4. Many do better with less.

LOML has high blood pressure but also has white coat syndrome (WCS) and it goes through the roof when in a doctor's office. She takes her blood pressure daily, and has been for over 20 years, so we know the office visits do cause it to go up.

Me - 35lb overweight and the opposite of WCS. Average BP - 100/75 at home but every time I go to the doctor - mine is lower 90s over 60 or 65.

LOML gets angry at me and wonders if I do it on purpose!
