    A sad day for us

The wife called me at work all concerned when she got up this morning (her day off) to ask me what had happened. She said the hallway and kitchen table and coffee table looked like a crime scene.

Turns out that one of the cats, the "little girl" had something growing on her the size of an orange. Rush to vet...they determined she had a cancerous tumor that usually only dogs get that had bled internally until it burst and while they could remove it and maybe save her she would last maybe 6 months. It was a hard decision but knowing that she would be in pain and discomfort to the end we decided she needed the best we could do for her. When we get the ashes back she will join her "momma lady" in the yard she loved.

She was one of 3 cats I recovered from our attic when their mother abandoned them up there one hot summer 12 years ago and they were bottle raised by us and trained to be proper watch cats by the dog who kept them all in line and took her maternal duties to heart.

Heartfelt condolences for your loss. A lot of that going around here lately, myself included. You made the tough but loving decision to spare your friend her inevitable pain and suffering. Our pets depend on us for that. Soon, you will find comfort that the happy memories remain.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Truly sorry to hear of your loss. It's never easy losing a pet but I hope it is just a little comforting to know that she will be suffering no more.

It's hard to say goodbye to old friends like that. You did the right thing as hard as it is. I am sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you. It is never easy to loose a member of the family, no matter the species. What I have always been told when faced with a decision like this is that it takes a better person to do the right thing for a pet than to keep them around and in pain for your own selfish reasons. You made the right decision.

Sorry to hear of your loss. We had to do that with one of our dogs not too long ago. It's a hard thing to do, but it's what's best for the pet. You wouldn't want to have her suffer needlessly.

                        Thanks everybody.

Cabinetman, I printed that for my wife and while it made her eyes leak she really liked it.
