    The Tally So Far

    4 days

    14 boxes of field tile, 50 tiles/box
    50 accent tiles
    12 edge tiles
    40lbs of thinset
    10lbs of mastic
    15lbs of grout
    1 wet saw blade

Another 7 feets square and 15 feets linear of edge tile and the counters will be d-u-n.

Yesterday it was cold enough that my hands got so numb cutting tile on the wetsaw that I did not feel the gash I got from a cut tile edge. I only noticed it when I saw blood in the thinset.

    Pics later this week.

If tilers get paid by the piece like brick layers do I'd starve if I had to make a living at it.

I really feel for ya. The first tile job I did was a condo we bought. It was about 900 sq ft of tile, and couldn't afford a wet tile saw. Did all the trimming with a nippers and the diamond blades for a coping saw and hack saw, and a wheeled tile cutter with the handle.

When we bought this house, LOML says, we gotta get a wet saw. All we could afford was this one. It's a cheapie, but I must say it did the job. Worked like a champ. I think my next one will be a bridged one if I do any more tile work...gee, I hope not.

Some jobs are best hired out. For me, tile is one of those jobs. Salut to those of you who take this job on, particularly if it's a big project. You're better men than me...

I'll second that. When we re-did out bathroom we were lucky enough to get a great tile guy. Quick, on-time and did great work.
