    Cool sniper shot

Man holds gun to his head and threatens to shoot himself. Demands include that his girlfriend be brought in to watch. Police in a stalemate. In comes police sniper.

I'm so getting a rifle when I get through my gun class.

This was in Worthington (or Dublin, depending on how you draw the map), Ohio, about 10 years ago, near a church and retirement community.

It didn't say how far away the sniper was. Even with a sniper rifle and scope, that would be a helluva shot at any distance over about 50 yards.

I just looked it up online and the shot is from 65 or 75 yards in Columbus, OH more than 10 years ago (can't find specifics yet). It's still pretty incredible, though. I'm sure a big part of it was luck, and I thought the idea of aiming at a guy so that he doesn't shoot himself struck me as awfully funny. I know that the target was the gun, but it could have just as well gone wrong.

With the position of the handgun in a lowered orientation, the collateral injuries that might have occurred to the wacko would have been non life-threatening. The end result would have still been his survival and an end to the situation. With today's optics and weapons, a 75-yard shot of that nature would not be a big problem for the marksman, as long as he could control his adrenaline, and aforementioned wacko held still long enough to line up the shot. Guys in that profession routinely shoot quarter-sized patterns at 100+ yards on the range.

I remember seeing that video years ago on the news. What was surprizing to me was that to my knowledge the guy didn't even get hit by a bullet fragment.

My 7yr old shoots me in the head from greater distances in Ghost Recon.
There goes his chance of going hunting with me. LOL
