    Home from PNW & BC

    Hey guys & ladies,
    We made it home today after a WONDERFUL visit to the Pacific NorthWest. We had a great time and even manged to see Mt. Rainier as we took off this morning. I don't think I have ever stuffed so many cool things in one week before!

    Dick, I didn't see your message on my other thread until I got home. Sorry I couldn't take you up on the phone call.

    During the week, we were in Cannon Beach, Or. (man,is that a big rock!) Aberdeen, Seattle and Bellingham, WA (and all points in between). We were on the the go CONSTANTLY! Can one of you please tell me what's up with all the coffee "boxes" on every corner??????? You all must have the coffee bean market covered!

    I also made my first crossing of the northern border. To all my forum friends north of the border, all I can say is WOW! You have a beautifull country, very freindly folks and really good beer. We went to Vancouver and stopped at the top of a really cool park that looks out over the bay. I think it was Story Park??? Stanley Park???? What ever the name, it was a great stop. We then went across the Loin's Gate Bridge (anyone know how it got it's name???) and up route 1 to Whistler, BC. It has been a LONG time since I saw that much snow and the views on the drive up were breathtaking! When they air the Olimpic games in a couple of years, I'll be able to say, "hey, I've been there!"

    Any way we are home and brain-dead tired. Thankfully I get to go back to work tomorrow so I can rest!

      Glad you made it back safe and sound, Larry. We haven't been there, but we've been to most areas in the U.S. Glad you had a great time. Now go make some sawdust.

          I hope I don't come off like a coffee snob, but it's funny you should mention that. I live close to Seattle. Whenever I travel out of state to an area where the coffee "boxes" aren't as prevalent, I still have to stop in and try the coffee. Well, you can guess people from this area have coffee ordering down to a science. So I'll order my usual drink and the barista will invariably comment something to the effect "wow, you know exactly what you want" "Well, I do live close to Seattle" The funny part is how nervous they get after you mention the word "Seattle".

          Having said that, my favorite place to get coffee isn't Seattle, it's:

          I swear I have nothing to do with this company. It's just, in my opinion, that they have the best coffee in the world.

              I think it has something to do with the 4-5 months of the year when we rarely see the sun. Causes us to get sluggish and a bit depressed (docs call it SAD-Seasonal Affective Disorder). Caffeine helps. By the time the sun returns, we're so addicted that we keep on consuming...we just get it iced.

              btw-For all you coffee lovers, I can heartily add a second recommendation for coffeefool.com. A bit pricey, but it's the only way I've found to get coffee as good as that from a real coffee house.

                  Glad you enjoyed your trip to the PNW. I love our little state. I don't know about the rest of the members in the Seattle area but I know that over here about 109 miles east of Seattle we have just as many coffee places to go. We have 8 that are seperate from the stores, and I know that there are at least 3 inside of the grocery stores.

                  If any one enjoys a good rodeo and fair and are coming this way around Labor day weekend our little town has a wonderful weekend of Rodeo and fair going on. Its the big event of the year around this town. And if you do plan to come this way then give Mark and I a yell and we can plan something.

                      Next time I'm on the "other coast", I just might give you and Mark that call! The next trip will be to Chicago sometime in July when the 9th grandbaby (4th grandson) makes his arrival.

                          To answer your other questions: yes it is Stanley Park and it is beautiful.
                          The suspension bridge is the Lions Gate Bridge. Two mountain peaks on the north shore are "The Lions" and they overlook the First Narrows, the Lions' Gate. Wikipedia has more information than you probably want at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lions_Gate_Bridge
