Too bad everyone doesn't just swim nude. Of course, that would eliminate one controversy and start another, bigger one.

I'm going to be doing my first triathlon this year. I've always felt the cycling portion was the least fair -- whoever has the big bucks for the top of the line bicycle is going to kick *utt. Now if I only had $550 for that bathing suit I could dominate in the swim.

I was on a swim team in HS and wore the little Speedos and in fact still wear Speedos when I swim, about $20 a pair. My goal in exercising is to KEEP FROM looking like a bloated sausage stuffed into a rubber band. So far I'm partially successful.

I can't imagine all that fabric compressing my arms and legs, I don't care how fast it makes you. It just doesn't seem right.

That's probably not a realistic assessment - unless you're trying to roll out on your beach cruiser! If you have a road racer with Shimano 105-level equipment you're going to be as competitive as your skills allow. If you get good, you could add clip-on aero bars and you'll be dialed in.

If you're still not competitive at that point - well, join the club.
