Watched the video and it is a reminder of how we deal with adversity, and the effects it has. I can remember seeing many 18 and 19 yr olds lose limbs, parts of their head and have missing face sections from action in VN. These were literally children who were out of high school and never lived as an adult in a somewhat normal life. They were counseled as best as could be expected under the circumstances.

One of my German Shepherds, an extremely active dog, has had a major problem with three of her legs. On each occasion, the Vet recommended a certain surgical procedure, and explained that it was all that can be done. He explained that in the event she didn't respond to the surgery, or the tumor grew back, amputation would keep her alive. Fortunately, she did respond well each time. The main concern we had for her emotional welfare is how she would get along with a missing appendage. He said most all dogs do just fine in adapting, and make the most out of what they are left with.

As for the young soldiers, they too had the choice of either wallowing in their problem, or to go on living and make good use of what's left.
