But . . . I love the color tone of the support post. It will match the MDF stand I need to build for it. Good thing its too far away for me to rush over and buy it.

      Regards, Steve.

I ran into this a while back on a BT3000. A guy wanted $350 for it and would not come down at all. Some people......

I had a local listing of $650 for a rigid jointer. it was the model that sells for $350-399 new.

Oh, don't get me started on CL. How about "Full shop of tools. Too many to list. Must take all. $10,000 firm."

Or, "old tools antique $350 you buy good."

I could go on and on.

Some of the stuff on CL is just amazing with the price and picture of the item which is junk. I have gotten very good deals on CL, but some people have no clue as to what their stuff is worth. Then you see it listed day after day and some time the price goes up.

The strange pricing some folks set is amazing. they either dont ynow what stuff really goes for or are just plain crazy. you can pick up some real bargins, however, I can tell you somebody in Phoenix did yesterday.

I usually scan my local CL a few times a day. yesterday there was a guy clearing out a bunch of stuff he never uses anymore (he was legit as I called him). He had a Jet 17" DP for $150 and the open jointer for $125 as well as a good DC for only $100. I was going to go down there but somebody else had called 5 mins before me and had taken the lot.

Maybe its one of our BT3ers.........

She lowered it down to $75. Still overpriced but nowhere near the $250 she initially had. I have a feeling she got a few emails or phone calls telling her the price was a bit high.

Reminds me of another one. A woman was selling a table saw that belonged to her husband. She posted the picture straight off the Sears website with a link to the page for specifications and had the price $40 more than you could pick it up for brand new. I of course emailed her and let her know and I received a very rude email back saying that was the price she wanted so either take it or leave it. It was one of the POS ones, so I was going to leave it regardless but to post the link to where you can pick it up for cheaper brand new is just beyond me.

I saw one just this morning in the CL boat ads... This guy goes on and on about this boat he is selling... At the bottom of the ad is a picture of a really nice cruising boat. Then below that, comes the caveat "This picture is of my other boat..."

I've put a few things that I don't *really* need to sell out there at what are apparently unreasonable prices - for instance, a kitchen table + chairs that we bought for $100 5 years ago, I listed at $100. It doesn't cost anything to list it and someone might take it. We ended up lowering it two weeks later to $75, when we actually needed the space in the garage, and WHOOOSH - did you hear it leaving?

I'll always list stuff at the higher end because 1) maybe someone will take it and 2) it gives a better bargaining position. You can always relist later.

That said, I am aware of what new items cost (including shipping, if applicable) and certainly wouldn't price any commodity above that pricepoint. Only antiques, out-of-print/manufacture, and one-of-a-kinds are worth excessive amounts, but even then, only to the right buyer.

My favorites are the "GOOD CONDITION!!!" posts where it looks like they left something underwater for three years, pulled it out of the ocean, left it in a bat-infested cave for another two years, got sick all over it when they retrieved it, then to clean it up waxed all that crap on. This one's not that bad, but it's certainly not in excellent condition - http://richmond.craigslist.org/tls/588892502.html

Other favorites are constant mispellings of common words, and spelling it differently throughout the post. Apparently this jointer was originally sold with an illegal immigrant, and you can still use his services today! - http://richmond.craigslist.org/tls/605526943.html - "with original manuel". No word on how much he costs to feed.
