I wonder if he'll get any response, poor guy!

of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Unfortunately, unless his neighbors saw something or some of the serialized item show up for sale he probably won't recover anything.

EVEN IF his neighbors saw something, doesn't mean he has a good chance of recovery.

Years ago, I was maybe 13. I came home from school, to find my brother in the living room, watching tv (he was in high school), and every door and drawer open in the place. After finding a 13" tv missing, I called my mom to find out if something happened (she was po'd and took the tv or something). She didn't known anything about it, so I put a call into dad. While waiting for him to call back, I went to nuke a burrito and found the microwave gone. I knew what had happened. I called mom back and she called placed an emergency call in with dad (in his job he wasn't always in the office). I said don't touch anything else, the police are going to want fingerprints, and my brother laughed and said they didn't print, and then went and shut EVERYTHING. (Smart... older brother at the time).....

Cops came, and didn't fingerprint then, (they didn't want to have to eliminate), talked to the neighbors, and they saw a white van loading up and leaving. They figured we were moving and didn't tell anyone and that was all the description they had.

YEARS later, we found out who did it.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

According to my local PD, when something is stolen here in FL, there's about an 80% chance it's on a boat in 24 hours, and in Puerto Rico in a week. My comment to them was "If you know that, why don't you do something about it?" Only answer was rolling eyes...

Okay, time to go photograph and catalog all my tools now for insurance purposes. Thanks for the reminder!

I wonder if this is some sort of scam, preying on people's sympathy. I've seen two other posts in the Tampa Craigslist that were about the same thing, complaining about people stealing tools and the guy listed what was stolen out of his shed/garage.

I'll shorten it. Attempted break-in, 17 y.o. daughter home from church sick. She startled them when she eventually went to the door. ID'ed them in school yearbook. Police go to their home and ask them if they know us. THey say, 'nope', case closed. The daughter also ID'ed the car which was the same one observed leaving two other church members homes after burglaries. There are more ****ing details but it didn't matter. The officers were too busy for a couple low-end burglaries. Sad on several levels.

Maybe he didn't have all that taken. He might be just trying to get an insurance settlement.

Of my tools stolen, I recovered some at pawn shops. Even with my name and driver's license engraved on the tool, I didn't get immediate recovery. I would have to go to court and get a judge to force recovery. In the meantime, I had a choice of buying them back at their cost, or wait 6 months to a year if I'm lucky, plus court costs.

I live in Minneapolis, and I've had stuff stolen from my Garage several times. Now I don't leave anything I'd feel really bad about losing, and I leave my car doors unlocked.

About 4 years ago, about $1000 of stuff was stolen from my brother's garage where I was doing some WWing. They actually came back two nights in a row!

Then more recently, someone broke into my car by breaking the window. So now I don't keep anything in the car and I keep the doors unlocked (if they got into the garage, they'll get into the car).

Sounds fishy, as others have said. Why didn't he go to the cops? He's relying on the good will of the great people of Minneapolis to know something about his stuff without any real details? Good plan.
