    Favre to retire

Just saw that Brett Favre is going to retire. While my son the Packer's fan won't be happy, I'm happy for Favre. Having watched one too many formerly great athletes outstay their ability, I'm happy to see Favre go out after a great season. He'll be remembered as one of the greats and will have this season as the freshest memory of all.

Jim Kelly had a great run with the Buffalo Bills in the hayday of K-Gun Offense, and their days of NFL dominance (except on Superbowl Sundays ). It kills me that my older boys only know him as an ineffective old statue that got sacked more often than a freshly picked spud. Too many greats just can't stand to be away from the spotlight and try to get "one more year" like the one Favre just had, only to find themselves being humbled into oblivion unceremoniously. Good call by Brett IMHO....
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

Yeah, it's too bad many of the greats wait too long to retire. I guess they love what they do so much, it's a hard decision.

I will be wearing black--along with green and yellow--the rest of the week.

As my wife said, he picked a great time - we're surprised to see him retire, where last year we were shocked to see him come back.

As for wearing black, it's been a bad week for football. Last week, Myron Cope died. This week, Brett Favre retired.

The only remaining question is whether or not Madden will give up the booth or if he'll find someone else to fawn all over?

I was on a conference call this morning with some people from GB when the news broke. The meeting literally stopped dead for 15 minutes while they discussed their loss and tried to regain their composure.

I have been to GB, and hearing the stories of how BF is, I can understand.

Favre was truly great. He loved the game, and the game wasn't about money or fame for him. I will never forget the Monday night game after his dad died. That was an incredible performance. Unfortunately, there are not enough athletes like Brett Favre. I thought for sure he would come back this year to try for another Superbowl. The Hall of Fame will dust off a spot for the first year he becomes eligible.

A lot of Minnesota fans are rejoicing as he has killed us more than once, but I will miss him when we play the Packers. Unfortunately, most of the older players hang on for the money. Brett always seemed to play for the love of the game. He was like a little kid in a candy store. He'll go down as one of the greats of the game.
