Watching Norm gets me a new tool

I've mentioned before that I'm working on plantation shutters. Well, I'm back to it after a few other things came up. I was watching the NYW video I bought on making these and LOML was there also because she finds these things interesting. So, we're watching Norm cut mortises and out of the clear blue comes
"Do you have one of those?" (meaning a mortiser)
"No, I have to do them the hard way."
"Would it be easier and quicker if you had one?"
    "Yes"
"We got this flyer from Woodcraft that they have a sale this weekend, maybe you should go look at some."

So I am now the owner of a Jet JBM-5 mortiser. As a bonus, she signed up for a basic turning course while we were there and has her eyes on one of the Jet mini-lathes if she decides she likes it.

    No sisters, sorry guys.

That's a win - win situation. Now you can buy her all the tools you need.

How about a close cousin, we could do a swap ..... hmmm, then again if SWMBO sees this I wouldn't have any limbs to do woodworking.

Now if I can just get her to not let the tape measure slam home she would be perfect. I'll probably just go get her one of her own, or give her mine that has been so abused and get a new one.

Consider the cost of tape measures and resign yourself to getting a new one every year or two. You want to do NOTHING that will discourage her...

Tape measure slam home? I more or less always slam mine home. I am not sure how you can avoid it. I've had mine 8 years and it still works fine. I've lost tape measures but never worn them out.

                  Nice.

By comparison, I just wait until my wife goes and spends a couple hundred dollars on drapes, paintings, and such for the house and repeatedly mention how much more her one day's worth of shopping costs more than the tools I bought in the last 90 days. It's a much more antagonistic relationship, but in the end it still results in more tools

I'm not sure I want LOML in my shop - she'd make me clean it up!

I have the Jet mortiser, I think you will like it.
