    What's The Best Bait

Ah-ha, you thought I am asking about bait to catch unsuspecting fish. But no, my woodworking cohorts, bait for mouse traps like these.

I have always used peanut butter, but wondered what else works good. BTW, what wood do ya-all think they use for the bases of them there things. The ones I got look like Aspen.

Had much experience with this. Stick with the peanut butter (pun intended). It will stay put in the trap, will not smell bad, and will not attract insects. Very effective on rats and meeces.

When putting the peanut butter on, dab a little to the underside also. Saw that someplace and will have to say it works better than just putting it on top.

You might dab a touch of jelly on the peanut butter... the local mice here seem to be drawn more to it. Of course that could be a geographical thing I suppose as I do live in the "peanut butter and jelly" region of the country.

How do you apply peanut butter to the mouse trap (aka Cat)?

I think it would be cleaning itself and ignore the mouse. LOL

I've had good luck putting a Cheetos fragment on them. Of course I have to buy a bag and search for just the right on to use first.

              Mouse Trap Bait

I've always had perfect results when I used a oiece of lean raw bacon tied on with a little oiece of dental floss. I passed this on to an earlier similar post on this forum and the recipient caught his little pest on the first attempt.

              Good luck.

Never had much luck with bacon. Maybe mine were vegetarian. (or Jewish...)

I always had luck with bacon, too.

However, don't set mouse traps in the heat of the summer and go to
California on a business trip for 3 days. Your apartment will not smell like
                  bacon on your return.

I've had good luck with a little copy of this picture glued to the trip pad.

My little brother, a self-proclaimed master mouse trapper, swears by bologna. He claims to have caught 7 mice with one small piece. Myself, I prefer Warfarin.

mice seemed to like chocolate on glue traps that I've used. traps are most effective against walls, that might improve your odds.

If you use glue traps secure them in place somehow or turn the light on before entering the room containing the trap if it is dark. Having a live mouse glued to your foot while walking around in the dark leads to loud, frantic screams (this happened to my Mom way back when I was a teenager).

I never understood the glue traps anyway. My Dad certainly didn't get them to be "humane". I think he just preferred to kill his enemy manually (since he killed them himself after they were caught in the trap).
