It is good to see it has been edited and updated to include reference to Richard Davis and Second Chance; arguably the the most important reason why modern LEA's are using vests today. Mr. Davis has been shot more times than likely anyone else alive. He used to shoot him self to demonstrate the utility of his vest; with a magnum handgun no less.
As an admitted coward and sissy, I am hoping never to have a need to wear body armor. (I wisely signed up for the Air Force, figuring as long as I stayed on the ground my odds were pretty good. I was issued a Kevlar vest and helmet once for a deployment but thankfully never had to wear it.)
I admire all those on active duty abroad or patrolling our streets who have to wear this stuff on a regular basis. It's not at all pleasant to wear and the weight is one of the reasons deployed troops lose so much weight. Thank goodness it has saved many lives.
