Ok guys, I'm sure someone on here has an answer to this. I just about have the new shop finished (pics to follow as soon as the sun ever comes back to this area). Anyway, after putting a $10 digital thermometer/hygrometer in the shop, I noticed that the relative humidity was running 50% & I about freaked. I was scared to put any of the tools in there at first, but I got to thinking that maybe that's not as bad as I was thinking. What do you guys think the ideal relative humidty is for a wood working shop?

How about I let you know once it's warm enough to get back into the shop.
Almost there...today was just below freezing. From the "deep south" part of Canada

I'll take it. It's the price we pay for being able to wear t-shirts year-round and work in the shop on any day we please. And peeling lips and sinuses are something we don't get around here, either.Comment

Your shop RH is about what we get in our living area (So Fl), with central AC (approx 42% - 45%). For a shop, that's pretty good.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really had no idea what was acceptable. Over the past month it rains every 3 days. It's very humid here in the summer so I'm sure it will be shooting on up. I guess 50% isn't as bad as I thought.Comment
