    Custom Car Door

I haven't seen this posted here, but apologies if it appeared during my vacation. It's an unusual way to deal with getting in and out of cars, many advantages and I'd guess a couple of disadvantages - driving rain and the price, probably.

Interesting... I love the way they slipped in the words "somewhat drastically modified vehicle frame" into the commentary. I can only imagine the red tape that would be required to get DOT approval for such a thing in the US. Note also that there is not the slightest mention of cost on the website, but much of the video is shot in front of a mansion. I'm also trying to figure out how one would get out of the car in the event of an electrical failure or dead battery. Still interesting, though...

Rescue/extraction in an accident would be a problem, too.

Very unique. Actually wild. I like them things better than Lambo doors. They would work good in single and two car garages, especially shop types. I wonder how structurally safe they could be. An uncomfortable problem could be when straddling the door edge, or leaning your head out, and it decides to go up.

That would take care of dings on your car caused by some jughead parked beside you.

Actually, the jughead parked next to you would still ding your door if they didn't have that type of door on theirs.

Anyway, that's pretty slick looking. Thanks Ray.

That is pretty slick. As far as red tape goes, if you buy a car stock and modify it like that, how is anybody gonna know? It is no different than an engine or brake mod.

My question is what do you do in driving rain or snow when the whole side of the vehicle opens up. Get wet bottom when you sit in.?

Except that the mods are made in the UK. Getting the car back would be the problem...

The door would have to have a rubberized interior panel for bad weather.

What happens if you accidentally bump the door trigger on the keychain when getting something/one out? Does it have a safety?
How does it effect crumple zones? Access to the underside of the car (fuel filters, transmission and drivetrain service, etc.)?
Will new lifting methods be needed to prevent racking? (like opening the doors on a corvette before lifting)

Seems like it would be beneficial in dealing with wheelchair access.
What does the inside of the door look like? (window hardware, electric and or manual), or are the windows useable? (could be fixed windows and MUST use climate controls).
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I didn't really notice the car doors. I was too busy focusing on the attractive ladies demonstrating the doors...

I've seen mini-vans for years with disappearing rear doors for handicap access, and there's even the added complexity of the wheelchair lift that they've worked out.
