    Need a little Software Help

My fiance needs a copy of either "Dreamweaver" or Front Page. Does anyone know of a Public work-a-like, or a Copy of one to the two mentioned that they would be willing to sell, or that I could borrow for the duration of the Class that she's taking?

Have her check at her school. Most schools have great deals on software for classes.

Or if you want a free alternative to Dreamweaver, you might try Aptana Studio. This is open source software. They do have a pro version that runs $99. The website is www.aptana.com and follow the Studio link on the front page. May or maynot work for the class. Worth the shot.

If she just needs an HTML editor, you can probably find something here.

I would also check the bargain bin at your local Best Buy/Office Depot/etc....there's usually some good software to be found in those 5.99-9.99 packages.

Google "free html editor" turned up 8+ million hits...

Google open source Dreamweaver. Just looked at couple of possibilities. This one http://www.osalt.com/dreamweaver , had some options that could do it.

Both these software are html developers with wysiwyg (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) options. While it'd seem very helpful to a newbie, they only serve to limit your productivity. If at all possible, might be a good idea to use any text based editor.

But which one, could be a puzzler. Choices range from tens of good freeware products like AceHTML / notetab / etc to the relatively cheap (but powerful) Coffeecup or Homesite.

If she'd really prefer a wysiwyg editor, she'd pretty much be happy with NVU. It might have less jazz than dreamweaver / frontpage, but is more than adequate for many advanced users.

Both of those "drag and drop" programs are modular and produce unnecessarily large amounts of code, causing slower loading and running.

Try the excellent "HTML-Kit" software, brilliant features and you simply can't beat the price (free)!

George, if your fiance's still looking, I can't believe I didn't remember this the first go round.

Microsoft has an Express Version of it's Visual Web Developer product...appears to essentially be the replacement product for Frontpage. The Express editions are free, including commercial use if one desires.

I have dabbled with an open source program called NVU and its cousin Kompozer, both free downloads and are WYSIWIG HTML editors. I don't have enough experience with the two mentioned above but I can tell you that MS Frontpage does produce some sloppy code.
