    MORE Honda problems !!!!!

On Jan. 21st I mentioned that Honda replaced the transmission in LOML's Honda after it failed at 83K miles. Put in a refurbished ("they replace all the internal parts...") tranny.

Yesterday the car wouldn't go over 60 MPH, over-revved before shifting, and the warning lights came on again.

    Yep. Tranny failed.

20 days. 123 miles. Second replacement going in as we speak. She looked at a new Accord after being informed Honda had changed tranny design in 2003, and again in 2006.

Then I checked on the internet. Sporadic reports of tranny failures, including the 2006 - 2007 models.

So, after we pick up the car we will drive straight to Toyota for a new Camry ....

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I have never owned a Honda and probably never will but mainly because I think they are overpriced. You might want to also consider a Sonata. It seems like I've read Camry's are not what they once were either and Hyundai's specs are improving. Hyundai gives you a 5 yr 60K miles bumper to bumper warranty plus a power train warranty.

You probably don't change your own oil but I do and that is another gripe I have with honda. They seem to consistently locate the oil filter right next to the exhause pipe. On a hot engine, this can be painful.

      Paul,

Sorry you're having so much trouble with the Honda.

One of my daughters has a 2006 Camry. She does not like it. She drove my Buick Lucerne the other day, and she just loved it. I know opinions vary, but just wanted to let you know about that. You might want to take it for a long test drive. In particular, she does not like the way it handles in snow, and she does not like the seats. Others have also complained about the seats. Take a long drive in it before you buy.

Paul, I am also sorry to hear about your issues wit Honda. Have you considered a Civic (I know, I know, still a Honda...) but they are the same size now that the Accords were back in the late 90's. It would be cheaper, and get better gas mileage. I have no affiliation with Honda, I just really like them.

I drove a Corolla and hated it. I looked at the Camry's and I did like them a lot better than the Corolla's. I ended up with another Civic .

I think it's just because I love palindromes...

Have you considered a Mazda 3? I have owned a couple of Mazdas over the years and thought all of them were built VERY well and had no hiccups out of any of them. Very comfy, good power, great mileage and I love the looks of the 3's.

My fave ever, though there is a 40,000 word palindrome out there. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Take a look at the Mazda 6 also. They are nice cars and IMHO drive nicer then hondas or toyotas. My protege5 has 120,000 miles and the only issue has been a small oil leak.

+1. I drive a 3 hatchback. It's an incredible value for the money. Especially after owning a European maintenance queen and a 91 octane guzzler (no, I'm not even talking about a BMW...VW!).
