A handy lense for you photographers out there

    I ran across this recently...

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...mm_f_5_6L.html

Highlights from the "features" page on the webiste:
    • calling this lens a 'tele' is like calling King Kong a monkey
    • tripod recommended
    • pack mule not included

At only $99,000 I'd say this one's a must for any dedicated hobbiest!

I'm wondering if you can actually see the American Flags on the moon when you add a 3x teleconvertor.

And that's the used price. I wonder what the proce would be new?

Good reason to buy Canon, right (would start a flame war on some photography sites)

dunno if you can get it new - used to be available only on order. Only a dozen in existence .

The ad copy (ie, the feature tab) makes it really interesting .
          > Who bought them? National Geographic magazine and Sports Illustrated are known to own a couple, the Feds probably have a few squirreled away somewhere, and a few well-heeled photo enthusiasts.

          > Included with this lens is a leather slip-on 'lens cap', a fitted aluminum trunk case, and a prodigious measure of ego satisfaction.

          > Weighing in at over 36lbs and an overall length of 33 inches, a sturdy tripod and pan/tilt head is highly recommended. Pack mule not included.

am thinking, if i show this to LOML, she might accede faster to a 'smaller' purchase of a regular DSLR .

I wonder what it would cost as an f/2 lens.

Rumor has it the previous owner of this lense died of a heart attack. Seems while he was using it a gnat landed on the lense & it scared him to death!

Nope - Canon only made a dozen or so of these lenses (for obvious reasons). Full auto focus, flourite lenses - a great lens! I remember reading about it when first developed, but I don't recall the original cost.

they only posted the lens on the page, so that the cost of the accessories would seem little. people say heck no to the lens, and the say, that seems like a good buy

Plan on spending another $300 or more for a good heavy-duty tripod!

What, you don't think that $1 image stabilizer would do the trick?

only if you happen to be a body builder.
