    Dirty Jobs

Did anyone catch the new episode of Dirty Jobs? Mike was in Winter Lake, Oregon making cedar shingles and shake roofing. There was some amazing equipment in use at that place. Had to be at least a dozen ways to lose a finger in the blink of an eye! I've always wanted to work in the wood industry, not too sure about this place!

That's the first time I remember Mike looking really nervous and I don't blame him. That whole place was full of big, sharp, fast-moving stuff. I found myself sitting with my hands balled into fists just thinking of losing fingers.

DangQ I always miss the good ones. At least, the first time around I do. They re-run them forever and back a couple of years. I worry for the man's health in general - no mask, no hearing protection, etc. Nice guy but a little nuts, I believe.

I watched it last night and found it incredible the shingle company allowed "Dirty Jobs" to film there. A good OSHA officer should show up at their facility the next day after airing and shut them down. There were many simple improvements that could be made that would make the chance of injury much less likely.

By the way, the barnacle segment was about as nasty as anything I've seen.

Saw the episode that one guy was awful quick in grabbing the fresh cut boards and with one hand and sizing them up with the other. Could barely keep up with what he was doing.

Didn't think the barnacle one was that bad.

I will say he does things that I wouldn't but then again he is shy / squeamish / afraid / etc on things I would do with no problems. I guess it's how you look at things.

If you're interested here's an article on Mike and how the show came about.

Good thing I put down the coffee before reading about the nun.
