    My uncle passed away ....

yesterday, my uncle passed away at about the age of 50. he was younger to my mom by a couple of years. my mothers family is very big and she is the third youngest and this is the first death among her siblings. she is taking it real hard, she is in canada, and her brother passed away in pakistan. she isnt able to go, and what sucks is that i live here in az and am not able to be there for my mom.

my siblings and myself are born and raised in canada and have only gone back a few times to visit family (mom's and father's side). it felt really odd talking to my cousins (whose father passed away) and my aunt for the first time in very very long time. i didnt know what to say, yet i wanted to console them. this whole thing gives me a sense of kind of being detached or not belonging to a 'extended' family. i mean, there were no relatives around when we grew up, we didnt talk on the phone, just met them a few times when we visited, but only remember them from our last two visits, because were too young before that.

well, i've gone on too much, thanks for listen .....

              Omar,

Condolences, good thoughts and prayers coming your way. Being isolated by many miles from everyone else in the family makes it doubly tough. Come by here and "talk" about it all you need to...the support that's here is one of the many things this online family does best!

My condolences Omar. Can technology perhaps change your relationship with your extended family? Lots of countries overseas have changed so much with the advent of the internet and cell phone.
