Stupid DirecTV box!! Lost all of my recorded shows.

I have over 70 Woodworks shows and about 50 NYWS shows recorded on my DVR, not to mention several other DIY network shows that I wanted to keep. All gone. The box won't even start up now. It just says "you're reciever is having trouble starting up. Please unplug the cord for one minute and try again" or something like that. Then it'll say it's checking the disc, and then it'll get the same error message all over again.

Aside form wishing that DirecTV programmed their boxes to use the UDB port that's already included, I wish there was another resource to get these programs.

They're sending me another DVR, but I'm still ticked that I lost my collection.

Hmmm. My experience with Direct TV is that they're not real Pro-active once they've set you up and grabbed your money. They gouged a wall next to the TV during install, didn't bother to mention it nor did we see it and when I called, they sent me like a 10 page damage form. Fixed it myself. Not worth the aggravation.

Other than that, the NFL Sunday ticket worked fine

I break the rules with my DVR box and take the hard drive out periodically to copy stuff to my PC. Of course, there's a pretty chance I'll have to buy the box when I'm done since I've done this...

        Dave,

DirecTV has always been good to me. When we bought this house about a month later I had termite treatment done. That same evening couldn't watch TV. The termite people cut the cable. I called DirecTV, repair guy showed up on time the next morning and signed a statement about what he fixed. I took pictures before/after and sent everything off to the termite co. I got a check for the repair plus extra for my trouble 2 weeks later.

Hey- it's really not DTV's fault. If anything, they need to turn on the USB backup option (which they keep saying is coming soon). Really, I'm just venting.

But as far as the replacement goes, I got the new box today (actually came yesterday, but I missed the delivery). Called them to get it activated, and will send the old box in the replacement's shipping box via the pre-paid FedEx label. Sure, the replacement is a refurbished model, but still pretty impressive.

I just hate to think of all of the WWing shows that are now gone. About 2 years or WoodWorks re-runs.
