As most of you know, my wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary the day before yesterday. Our kids wanted to take us out to a steakhouse last night because Friday was not a good time for everyone to get together.
When we got there, we were greeted by a pretty large crowd, most of which were direct decendants of us. The others were in-laws.
Our girls worked on a power point presentation, which began with a few wedding pictures (Dec. 28, 1957), and included tons of pictures throughout our lives. Every member of our family had individual pictures of them, and included their date of birth, popular songs of the year, and news events. There were also pictures of family vacations, gatherings, etc. I don't know how long it lasted, but I'm guessing an hour and a half. It seemed like our whole lives were recorded.
One of our girls made 4 scrapbooks that included some pictures I'd never seen before. I never thought I'd care much for scrapbooks, but these were absolutely fantastic! I didn't know a scrapbook could have so much value.
We have one daughter who lives in Iowa, and although she couldn't make it for the celebration, she did make it here so all our kids could have group portraits made for us. Since we're a baseball family, we have fans of the White Sox and the Cubs in the family. They all wore shirts indicating the team of their choice. The final "score" was White Sox 5/Cubs 4. The group portraits show "family ties" being stronger than "team preference". They are absolutely GREAT!
Our 10 year old grand daughter played "The Wedding March" and "Rock Around The Clock" for us, on the piano. She's very good. And one of our boys played guitar, and sang "Time In A Bottle".
Since everyone knew we were contemplating buying a HD TV, they picked up the bill for it. We just have to pick it out. But the real value of the celebration was not the TV. It was everything else.
This was such a great event, I have a tear in my eyes as I write this. The amount of preperation and time it took to put this on for us is unimaginable. We are so blessed to have such a tight family. It couldn't have been any better. They'll never know how much we appreciate it.
