    Home Weather Stations

A few years ago LOML bought me this home weather station. I refer to it for daily info and forecasts for rain, humidity, and temperature. It's not a real expensive one, but provides a lot of data.

I'd like to hear what you guys use, and any recommendations on better units.

I usually stick my arm out the window, that tells me what's happening outside. Real lo tech, but it's always accurate.

I do something similar - I have a rope hanging outside the window. If it's dry, its sunny. If it's wet it's raining and if it is moving it is windy.

We have one our son gave us. Not sure if it's an upgrade from yours, so I won't recommend it.

When I was up in Alaska at Dutch Harbor we had a log chain hooked to a post as a weather vane. If it was out at a 90 degree angle; too windy. If it was at a 45 degree angle; normal day. If it was hanging straight down, go back to bed cause that never happens.

I just picked up a kit by La Crosse Technology at Costco for about 70 bucks. It included one of their weather stations, a tempature and humidity station and the transmitter.

Only had it about three days, but so far, so good.

I have the LaCrosse also for about 3 years. Works fine until the wind speed is hammered by hail. They replaced it free. Than a buzzard tried to roost on it and broke the U-clamp. Had to crawl up on the roof to fix that.

I would like to get the rain gauge attachment but it is too pricey at $65.

My dad has the one from radiop shack with the wind sensor and that stuff. not terribly accurate (even in shade temp is off during summer, and the wind will not be right unless it tranmits as its blowing because the thing transmits once every 2 minutes) but it works

although he likes it, he wants something like this http://oregonscientific.factoryoutle...ns-WMR968.html so it is perfectly accurate.
