    Yup, I'm Old

My neighbor's work schedule changed last week so his teenage daughter now rides the bus to school. A couple of her friends get dropped off to be picked up with her. It occurred to me this morning that I am old enough to be their father.

Yup, and in a few short years you're gonna see *their* kids get off that bus and guess how old *that's* gonna make ya feel!?!? I sorta enjoy being the old guy who has always been around and treated them well as they grew. I recall some old gentlemen who were like that in my life and I still recall them fondly. I want to be like that.
    Blessings,
    Chiz

Pretty soon you'll be that guy in wide suspenders who shows up whenever the heavy equipment rolls into the neighborhood, offering advice to the workers, reminiscing about how it was done in the old days. Or will you be the guy in overalls, telling the guy in the suspenders he doesn't know spit, because where you grew up real men did that work, using nothing but brawn.

Dave: "Yep, (spit) that's the way it used to be done."

          How old is old?

How about when one of your students comes up and says that one of his parents was a student in your class back in . . . .

I retired a decade or so ago so I would not have to face that student whose grandparents were in one of my classes!

As someone said about the golden age . . . "It ain't all that golden, but sure beats the alternative."

          Stay young, regards, Steve

I have this gal that we have been flirting back and forth, but looking at her, I do think she is still young enough to be my daughter. (21).
I have friends that are within two years of my age, and just had their first kids, then I have friends who are grandparents, also.
Two gals, I used to know (and wanted to date, but didn't for two different reasons), both had kids, who would now be around her (from aboves) age.

            I am only 37.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I used to dream about having a car full of cheerleaders. It wasn't the same when I was hauling my daughter and her friends to cheerleader practice.

I felt that way a few weeks ago, old that is....When a young man who was intoxicated came in to buy beer, I asked him for his ID and when he showed it to me I recognized the name on it.

I used to baby sit one of his younger brothers and he was only about 2 when I knew him. Well he asked me if I knew who he was and I said of course I did because I used to babysit his brother and I know his parents also because my grandmother was the secretary in the business they own.

That really made me feel old, and I am around your age David.

I knew I was old when the candy store clerk asked me if I qualify for the senior citizen discount. I'm 42!

Not too long ago I was over at the local school helping out with something and overheard one of the 3rd? graders referring to 'the old man in the parking lot'. When I looked around to see who they were talking about I realized I was the only one there.

Having on of my boys graduating college this year was a bit of a wake up for me also that time was moving on.

When I am back in the States and go to a carnival or fair that has one of those "Guess your age or weight" booths, I go for it. I haven't lost yet on age guessing! LOML is younger looking than her actual age too.

The downside to a 10 to 15 year younger looks than actuality is that it is assumed that I am healthy enough for heavy lifting, moving and odds n ends working. A problem coupled with this is my stupid work ethic that overdid things in my younger days - and my back, knees and other joints are taking their toll internally. From the time I was born to my 40's, there was no such thing as "can't be done work."

Uncle Cracker - I think you are perceptive. But it is good that David's mind is catching up with his age!

That I'm old enough to be their father I wasn't thinking that other thing, at all. I guess that comes with having daughters - my perception is shifted a little. One day my daughters will be teenagers and I'd really rather not have men thinking of them like that.
