The Prodigal Saw comes home!
Listen my friends and you shall hear........oh, enough drama, here's the story.
In '83 or '84, right after my ex and I moved into a new house, I bought the biggest, baddest, non-digital 10" radial arm saw that Sears sold. I used it for a few "new house" projects, but nothing to serious. About a 1 1/2 years later, we divorced and my ex asked what I was going to do with the saw. Since her mom and dad were building a house, I gave it to them.
Fast forward to about 8 years ago when I started getting back into woodworking. That was when the big RAS safety recall was in full swing. I got back in contact with my ex-fil and gave him the 1-800 number and told him I thought the saw he had was included. About two weeks later, he sent me an e-mail thanking me for the information. The saw was included in the recall and he had just got a nice reto-fit kit.
Fast forward again to a few months ago. My former inlaws sold the house and moved in with my former sister-in-laws family. Since there was a full shop there, the saw ended up in my son's garage, buried in the corner.
Belinda and I made an unplanned trip to Virginia to visit my sons the end of August and I saw my old saw!!!!! Jeremy and I talked about it a bit and he said he wasn't sure he was going to keep it since he really didn't have the room and radial arm saws scared him silly.
Two days after we got home, I was working on a project and said to myself, "this would be so much easier with a RAS". Well, the light bulb came on and I called my son. The punch line is that tomorrow, when my son and his family arrive for the Thanksgiving holiday, my old RAS will once again be in my shop.
I spent a good part of the day today rearranging the shop to make room for my "new", "old" saw!
