It's As American As Apple Pie

For all the trivia grubbers out there, here's one you may or may not have heard. Apple Plywood is the American version of the Baltic region Baltic Birch. It is made in America and available in 4' x 8' sheets. In naming the product "Apple Ply", it was a play on the phrase "It's as American as apple pie".

Interesting fact. I know it is used as a substrate for veneers a lot. Seemed to be a favorite of David Marks.

I am going to have to check out the local price and availability.

Wouldn't think you'd see a fruitwood harvested in sufficient quantities for production lumber. After all, an apple tree is most productive when it's alive... Perhaps they just use older, tired trees??

Actually, Apple Ply is not made from Apple tree wood. It's an Alder core with Maple faces.
