    Scenic Picture

Last Sunday my oldest son and I went on an elk hunting day trip. We did not see any elk but we did see deer (pictures to follow) and I was able to take a few good scenery pictures. More to follow.

This one was taken looking almost due west from near the top of Sugarloaf Peak in Washington's east central cascades. The lake in the background is Lake Wenatchee. This mountain burned sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. 100's of acres were burned.

Wow Mark. I know it is getting on to winter but that still looks pretty bare. I'd love to see what a summer pic looks like just to see how much has recovered.

I just got back from a week in Stehekin, WA in the Northern Cascades. Met a fellow woodworker there who builds Winsor chairs and turns bowls. Got a tour of his shop and some ww tips. The area is amazing for scenery and a really laid back vacation. Got engaged while I was there in fact.

Stehekin is about IIRC 40 miles north of where the picture was taken, well as the buzzard flies. Be forewarned that if you and your soon to be spouse decide to return to Lake Chelan for an anniversary be sure to watch for falling cows!

Dave the mountain top is sparse. 5600' elevation IIRC. This next picture shows a ridge north of the first picture. The green is mostly buck brush, at least that is its local name, an evergreen shrub.

Stan, this particular area has very few elk. The states depart of wildlife wishes to keep it that way. It has a much longer season and is open to harvest of "any elk" I have in other years actually seen elk sign and fairly fresh tracks near where I took the first picture. As you know elk can and do move vast distances literally overnight so in a way I am not surprised that we did not see any nor any sign or tracks.

*hmmm* Maybe I outta drive over that way and help you ensure the State DoW's wishes are honored. Some backstrap on the BBQ sounds pretty good to me.
