I'm Sittin' Here With My Gun

In the last hour, all the news stations were reporting of an escaped convict that shot a deputy and is loose in the area. Here's the story. This guy, Michael Mazza, complained of a back problem, was being transported to court in a sheriff's medical transport van, and overcame the deputy, took his gun and shot the deputy, and threw him out onto a parking lot. This all happened in close proximity to where LOML works. He then drives the van South to a restaurant parking lot not far from my house.

All kinds of helicopters flying around looking for this guy. He was serving two life sentences for armed robbery, caught after a bank robbery he committed one year after serving six years in prison. So, here he is with nothing to lose roaming around with the sheriff's gun, my neighborhood.

So, I got my 357 out just in case he decides to raise some havoc. As I type this, there's a gas station nearby that the owner said the guy came in to use the restroom. Police are checking the video tape to see if it was the guy. There's also talk he may have been picked up in his mothers car.

It's gonna be pretty interesting around here for the rest of the day, or at least until they find the guy.

Very sad. About 8 months ago a loser did the same sort of escape and killed the deputy. Friends said that he was great Dad. Be careful, CM, be careful!!

All our schools are on Lockdown .

Me, I am okay with that - it only means my girls are secure, but now their mom wants to get them home IMMEDIATELY ! (the emphasis is from her reaction).

I on the other hand was trying to think up a way I could get her into that school too - safer than alone at home!

Yes, but problems with lethal injections have slowed things down in the courts.

                        Glad he was caught.

It's good you didn't have to shoot him. His relatives would have sued you for sure. : (

Yup, Florida has the death penalty, but he was already serving two life terms.

Would that be a 40? I still prefer a 357. If I need more than six rounds, I got no business shootin'. I do have a speed loader, just in case I miss six times.

According to the FBI first round take down data the 40 just edged out the 357 and neither is as good as a 45 ACP.
A properly designed Auto is inherently more accurate than a revolver after the first round is fired.
To my way of thinking if you have made the call to pull the trigger it isn't a matter of hitting the target. At that point the idea is to hit it as many times as possible before the target hits the floor. At which time you eject the magazine slide in your next mag and chamber a round. You are now ready to defend yourself from any other posible threat until the police arrive to take control of the situation.

I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

You are probably right. But, I'm just a simple guy and like simple things. I want to pull the trigger and not have to worry about all the springs and doodads hanging up. I fired the 45 auto while in the Army going through many rounds of taxpayers money, and I just like the feel of a revolver. Besides, my 357 has interchangeable barrels up to 15". Could be my adversary seeing that big 'ol gun would just fall from fear.
