Not Sure I Will Eat Tilapia Again

Watching Dirty Jobs. He is at a fish farm. They clean the dirty water that the bass are in by having tilapia and carp eat the crap in the water. When the tilapia grow large enough, they are sold for people to eat. Ugh.

How do you think things happen in the wild. That's just part of the food chain that has been adapted to farming.
That's also why it's so important not to have anything in the top of the chain that shouldn't be.
If you are really worried about it I'm sure I could tell you enough to stop you from eating every except organic fruits and vegetables. But actually some of the stuff that happens naturally is disgusting if you get it enough thought.
I'm not saying you shoulldn't be worried about your food supply but fish eating other fish droppings isn't anything that doesn't happen in nature.

I had the same reaction to that episode! LOL, I guess ignorance is bliss, what do you think catfish, lobsters, crayfish, etc eat? I would think that in the wild they do eat more than just other fish's feces. on the farm they are purely used as a biofilter then sold as "farm raised" talipia.

I'm glad that something out there eats crap. Otherwise, we would all be neck-deep in it... (and at 5'8", I'd be goin' under before most of y'all)

Do you like your coffee? Just today our VP for HR told us how he had "civet" coffee on a recent trip to the Phillipenes. And how good it was. Then the people there told him what it was. Coffee cherries eaten by civets ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Palm_Civet ), and the droppings (with the beans) are then picked, cleaned and roasted for some of the most expensive coffees.

            I'm sticking with SB.

had Tilapia a couple of times both times it tasted like s#*t so I refused to eat it again. I later found out that its primary function in the wild is eating hippo feces, and a lot of it. I kept telling everyone I wouldn't eat a fish that did that, but they kept telling me they were farm raised.

I was watching Dirty Jobs a while back when this premiered and my entire family saw it. Now they all agree with me about Tilapia. Whether farm raised or wild it is a S#*t eating fish.

I've stopped eating corn. It is hard to fathom, but many farmers spray cow manure all over it. Don't get me started on organic. That just means more manure!

From now on, I am going totally carnivorous. In fact, from now on, I only eat things that only eat things that I would eat!

Ah yes, Doug. They spray 'black gold'. Around here it's not spring till it's sprayed and you know fall is over when it is sprayed. The aroma is rather pungent.

                        Don't catfish eat bottom stuff?

Catfish still tastes good! I don't think about it. Shucks I used to eat chitlins!

Apparently you've never seen a commercial feedlot or slaughterhouse. Might turn you off meat if you did.

As has been stated above, ignorance is bliss. Otherwise, the only alternative is to grow and/or kill all your food yourself.
