Scanning some old slides

I've been busy scanning a bunch of old slides, that really bring back memories. It takes time to scan them and enhance the images, but it's time well spent. It's been years since we've seen most of them, and now they're coming to life once again.

Here's one example. It's a shot of one of my boys viewing the "Bloody Pond" at Shiloh Nat'l. Cemetery. For those of you who might not know, the cemetery is a civil war cemetery. The "Bloody Pond" was so named because there were so many men killed there, both Union and Confederate. It is said that the pond turned red, due to all the blood. If you haven't seen the cemetery, I highly recommend it.

I hope you enjoy your project as much as I have enjoyed mine. Earlier this year my wife had to care for her mother in another town for almost four months and while she was away, I converted about 3800 35mm slides to digital. A local community college had acquired a NIKON Cool Scan 5000 machine, taught a simplified course for dummies and it probably took about 80 to 100 hours of scanning time. The scanner could probably handle about 50-60 per hour the way it was set up.
It takes even longer to clean them up, rotate, make captions, etc. Looking at CDs or DVDs is sure a lot easier than getting out the screen and projector.

I converted about 3800 35mm slides to digital.

That's a lot of scanning, not to mention the time fixing them up. I only have two to three hundred. I'm sure it's more rewarding to bring back your own memories than it is to work on someone else's.
