Last nite during a wee-hours wee break I noticed the motion lite outside was on. Looking out the kitchen window I saw what had to be the biggest skunk I have ever seen! Pure white!! Not a black hair on him/her; only black was a shiny nose and two eyes. Have a bird feeder off the back porch and it was merrily eating all the spilled black sunflower seeds on the ground. Skunks are regular visiters at our place, one reason is the bird feeders and also cause we live in a very rural village with our property backing on to pretty much wild country. A couple of years ago I did see some skunks that had a lot of white, rather than the usual color combinations; but this one was all white. Been wondering if this was the off-spring of one of those earlier ones, some kind of genetic oddity or maybe we have a new sub-species started.
Anyone out there know anything about this kind of question? Put me down as wondering in northern New York.
