    Would You Do This?

On the news this morning they had live cam of the new IKEA store opening up today, the first in Florida. It's approximately 300K sq ft, and has it's own restaurant. The first 100 in line to get in will get a gift, like a chair of some kind.

They interviewed some of the first few people in line, and they started on Monday to secure a spot. Others have taken off from work in order to stay in line. There was about 2000 people in line at around 6 AM, they estimated. They expect over 20,000 to visit the store today. Here's more on the story.

Wow... I'm trying to think of ANY product or store that I'd wait for like that. I'm coming up with a blank. Maybe if they were giving away nice houses in nice neighborhoods. Definitely not for an Ikea chair though.

Maybe for a chair on the board of directors, but not a chair they'd normally sell. Besides, they're all in millimeters.

I would not. The people in line are there less for the free chair and more to be part of the hype. I'd make it a point to wait a month till all the hubbub dies down.

Imagine how the employees feel at the neighboring businesses. Slow for probably the week leading up to it, then on the day of the opening, swamped.

We have a Bass Pro opening by us. Two+ years behind schedule, and they wanted us to do something at their event. It would shut us down for the day (on one of our already busiest), and they want a deal out of it. Kinda dreading the thing and hoping the Bass Pro out in Kansas that was started around or after our, yet has been open for a while, makes this opening a fizzle.
I already work enough hours, thank you...
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

There's been two IKEA openings in my area like this over the past few years. I've managed to skip both of them.

Got 2 openings in central FL in the next month... Cities have set up all off-duty police and firefighters to be on site... Ridiculous...

I have an Ikea fairly close to me. I've been there exactly 1 time in the 3 years that I've lived here. Even my wife (who usually loves that type of store) has probably only been there a couple of times. It's definitely not worth rearranging your life around their opening.

Personally I have never been in an Ikea store and I believe there is one over in Seattle area, also I have never been into a Pier One store. Because IMO I don't like any of their stuff. I don't like the styles or designs and I definetly don't like their furniture.

Now if it was a chance to meet some big celebrity then I might wait in line if it was someone that I liked. Maybe Dale Jr., Kasey Kahne, George Straight, Reba McEntire....you get what I am saying I am sure

I wonder if they will actually have the chair put together or if they give you a flat pack and allen wrench

It's probably a 2" thick box, 18"wide and 36" long, with 382 pieces and instructions for assembly in 5 or more languages.

Would these be an acceptable alternative?

                          Would you do this?

Well my buddy's wife Makes him drive from CLeveland to Pittburgh about twice a year to get stuff from IKEA.

Luckily for him and me we found a bar with about 28 Belgian beers on Tap nearby.

Now we are telling her that it time for some new stuff from IKEA!

There's an IKEA here in the Detroit area. Opened about 2 years ago. Have not been there. Though I hear the meatballs are good.
