    Dollar To A Doughnut

About 2 weeks ago a close buddy of mine from high school, college, and the Army, was in town for the day in between flights headed out of the country. Spent the day with him and it was great seeing him. I last saw him about 25 years ago on my bike trip/vacation, out West.

Well, today he was to return at 5:30 AM and catch a flight out at 10:AM. So, we planned to meet at the airport, and have breakfast. At 5:15 AM, I was sitting outside the Customs exit for passengers. After about an hour and a half, and all the passengers had exited, I was basically just sitting there, nobody around.

A Customs officer walked by and I asked if there were any passengers still in there, and she said no. Up to this point I had already called his cellphone twice and left messages. No response. So, I left and went to the terminal where his flight out was to be and scouted around thinking that maybe I missed him and he thought I didn't show. Maybe his phone was dead. So, I figured that as long as I was already there, I would hang out in the food area seeing as I hadn't eaten yet. And there it was a coffee and doughnut shop, with trays and trays of doughnuts.

I didn't think that there was any recession on, because the small coffee was $1.75, and there on the wall was a sign that said:
    DOUGHNUTS - .95 Cents.

I had a coffee and a doughnut, and decided to leave with mixed feelings about him not showing. That's not like him. Here it is around 10:00 AM and I still haven't heard from him. I bet a dollar to a doughnut that something is wrong.

Here's hoping it was just an unavoidable delay & not anything more serious.

Thanks for the shared concern. The way I've evaluated this situation is this:

He changed his schedule. If that was the case he would have emailed or called me. But, he may have no access to a computer, and/or his cellphone doesn't work, or he may have lost it.

He missed his plane. The above reason may apply.

He may be seriously ill and not able to call.

Could be something worse than seriously ill.

Haven't heard a word from his brother. Could be a good or bad sign.

He got hooked up with a beautiful sex starved babe that speaks no English and lost track of time with the glory of it all. I doubt that is what happened...but a possibility.

This whole situation feels the same as a soldier buddy that didn't return from a night raid.

Can you get in touch with his brother? He might be able to shed some light on this. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
