Even the Pres, George Bush, has finally jumped on th Global Warming bandwagon, after all his blustering about it being untrue.

After asking this question hundreds of times to people talking about the Global warming, I have yet to hear a good answer. Why is this any different than all of the glaciers melting millions of years ago that covered most of our northern states, Canada and other areas. I wouldn't be living in Minnesota now, if this hadn't happened then.
Since temperature records only go back about 100 years, this is too short of a time period to really have an idea of what's happening.

              laughable

"kudos" to those men and women who were deserving of such an honor, which has become a joke and is a disgrace to the memory of past deserving recipiants.
I guess it is deserving that the former veep joins the ranks of such notables as "the peanut farmer" (probably mr. jimmy's most impressive endevour.)

                question?

Wonder why my post was not posted...or was it censored?
I have enjoyed the information and freedom of this site for quiet sometime, but it seems to me that if someone opens a subject, it should be free to discuss....even if someone doesn't agree with the comments.
It's almost like watching the evening news, "you will hear what i want you to hear, and if you decide to have another opinion"...
Sorry, just venting a bit, seems the whole world has become insane.
Maybe a post with political overtones should be exsponged before comments begin to appear and then try and control the tone and content of the comments

The prize and the man political? Of course!
The cause and effect of global warming proven? Far from it!
World industrialization creating huge amounts of polution? Oh Yeah!
Theatening to all life on the planet? Without a Doubt!
Did Gore bring the issue into the light? Yes! And many people have tried but because of his political stature he got some traction on the issue.
Does he deserve the peace prize?
Well if you consider that polution and global warming are a global problems faced not only us but future generations. Consider the possible outcomes of never taking action. Then giving a prize to someone to keep that issue in the limelight is in my mind something that is well intended and well justified.
                  Opinions are like gas;
I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

The guidelines for this forum is well published, and even discussed ad nauseam. Religion and politics is not discussed. Why? - could be many reasons, could be the potential for acrimonious exchange, of something else. Bottomline is - it's not. Some topics - like this one - could be discussed as long as it stays away from those two aspects. Once it starts stepping beyond that line, you can expect to be reminded by somebody.

I am not a mod, just a regular visitor. I know the rules, and accept them. I like this place because of those rules, not just despite them. So whenever I think my reply could overstep the line, I forbear from posting. Pretty simple. Keeps me from offending others, and from getting offended myself. Don't see anything disappointing in it.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

The Nobel Peace Prize goes to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".

Contrast the above justification from the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the award of the prize to the IPCC and Gore with:

Nobel's will stated that the prize for peace was to be awarded to the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of peace congresses."

In spite of the earlier posts that attempted to explain and/or justify the rationale for the awarding of the peace prize, it doesn't take a genius to recognize that the Nobel committe is clueless (or blinded by some idealogical zeal) regarding Nobel's instructions for the criteria in awarding the prize.

The Nobel Committee's statement of rationale makes it clear that their criteria for the award had absolutely nothing to do with peace.

It is a good thing that the former veep invented the internet giving him an outlet to share his Nobel Peace prize with us.
Congrats to all those humanitarians who embrace peace, and share the Nobel peace prize for their contributions to the propagation of peace.
