Friend of mine who has a portable bandsaw showed up at the shop yesterday with....wait for it...two pieces of spalted maple! Each piece is 4" x 6" by 4 feet long!!! Wow, oh wow! He cut some lumber for humself and after I told him about "spalted" wood has been keeping his eye open as he saws. He cut some timbers of it for himself and shared the rest with me. What a pal! Don't have a clue as to what it will turn into but this winters projects are well in hand. This all started when I built an end table out of white oak and used a piece of spalted maple to make 3" square tiles to inset into the top. (pictures to follow as soon as I figure out how to send them) After I showed it to him he said, "I probably have some logs that might be spalted". So the great "spalted" chase was on. Hate to gloat but just had to share this with fellow BT3'ers.
