    I Feel Chosen

Got the surprise of my life today. Trekked out to the mailbox, and there inside was this huge orange envelope with my name actually printed on the front in big letters saying: Mr. Cabinetman, will you do us a favor and test tools? (Keep everything you test free!).

Inside, I got a sheet of labels for my electrical panel and 16 return address labels, and a plastic drill guide. Thought I would share my excitement with all of you that the Handyman Club of America brought to me today.

And here I thought I was the most sought out and valued opinion out there. Thanks for ruining my day guys.

Well...do any of you have a white AND a black drill guide from the Handyman Club of America? Mr. JoeyGee does. I hear that's symbolic of a platinum membership. The black one is extra special--I can check drill bits AND dowels for size.

Gee, I only got a paper guide and no pencil. Guess it's cause I'm in Canada.

I got two whites and a black, which I passed on the extremely grateful friends. I also got fancy stickers that I could put on my windows to let everyone know I was a goofball.

              Not much of a Handyman,

TWO blacks, and at least two of the white ones. I've given a couple away... guys think they're cool/useful and worth something. Worth something? I get them for free in the mail about once a year. I don't know how many times I've received that big envelope; you'd think they'd give up after 5+ tries... nah... marketing never gives up.

Stickers? I remember there is other stuff in those envelopes but I can't remember what! If I had return address stickers or whatever, I've lost 'em.

                Never got a pencil though.

I subscribed to handyman club one time. their magizine is decent but the rest of their stuff is a scam. I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff they send you is generic HF quality hand tools.

I haven't gotten one in a while, I guess I will soo though. I've gotten 2 or three of those by now, but never a pencil, too useful, I suppose.

I also get the garden equivalent, which has a couple packets of seed (which never seem to germinate) and some kind of fertilizer in a package sized to fertilize about two moderately sized potted plants.

I, too, was invited yesterday to join their exclusive ranks, with the introductory gift of a drill guide, address labels, and a notepad.

I can top all of you. The phone book lists my dog instead of me, so he's been invited to join not just the Handyman Club, but many other things normally not available to his sort.

How does he relate to "bench dogs". And I was wondering if he cringes when he hears the term "pinch dogs".

I got drawn in for a year as well. Like you said, the rag wasn't half bad. The sent a small set of jeweler's screwdrivers to test (gee, does it or does it not turn screws...duh!). When my time was up, they promised me the moon to get me back in. No dice...the mag wasn't that good, and I was in it for the tools.

I feel slighted. All I ever got was the drill guides. A couple of those electrical box labels would sure come in handy!

Or, maybe I should look closer at the contents in the next mailing....could be I have been tossing them out as garbage!
