    Mcfeely's verses Kreg

So I am building my router table using an old 1/2 sheet of borg ply (that was wonderfull) and a new sheet of the $25 bargain ply (that is OK). For ease of assembly I was using glue and the Kreg screws I had. But they have been protruding. Since plywood isn't true 3/4" and I haven't found Kreg 1 1/8" screws, I thought of Mcfeely (dad has a sample pack). I MIGHT be able to try a few (don't know if he will part with any), but I know they have several different varity of screws.

I know several have said they are comparable (though not always the same), what I am worried about is getting the wrong type. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

If you're using 1/2" stock, you should be using the 1" screws. You also could adjust the stop collar a poofteenth or two (two poofteenths = 1 smidgen) so that you're not drilling quite so deep.

Make sure you've got the jig set for 1/2" as well. If it's set at 3/4, you're going to poke through the side even with the 1" screws.

Sorry for the confusion. It is 3/4" plywood.

Total plywood for this project is a sheet and a half (started with a half that I had).

If you are using 3/4" plywood and 1 1/4" screws you should not be having any problems with the screws poking through unless you are drilling too deep with the pocket hole drill bit. Check your set up for depth of drilling. I have been using 1 1/4" Kreg screws on 5/8" panels with no problems.

Also make sure you slow way down with a drill/driver when installing the screws or you can crush the plywood and the screw will just keep going. Set the drill/driver torque setting on 3 or 4 to prevent this.
