I am not planning on making a geriatric step stool but I AM searching for one online.
My mom used to have a geriatric step stool about 6 inches high, 24 inches wide and about 16 inches front to back. This was located by her bed and helped her get into and out of bed the last few years of her life. This stool was purchased at Walmart in about 1998.
My aunt lives in Sacramento, CA and is in need of one. My oldest sister is 68 and uses the one that my mom had. These bedside stools are handy for getting into and out of beds that are a tad too high for people with slight mobility problems, but who love their own bed and don't want to buy a new bed at this age in life.
Features:
It would slide under the bed,
Wide enough so that an elderly person didn't have to "feel" for the stool. Deep enough too. Its size is a safety feature for elderly.
6 inches - Not too tall. Over 6 inches are unsafe for geriactrics with slight mobility problems.
My sisters have searched and searched in stores and on the internet and all we can find are 10 and 12 inch "geriatric" stools that are too narrow and too tall. DUH - 10 and 12 inches are too tall for people with mobility problems!
Does anyone know of the kind that I am looking for? Any help would be appreciated. If I can give them a phone number of a company they can order one.
Thanks
Hank
