    A Thought For Friday

What we have developed here and work at it on a daily basis.
From Wikipedia: A community is a social group of organisms sharing an environment, normally with shared interests. In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks and a number of other conditions may be present and common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness.

I appreciate the sense of "community" that is established here. The varied personalities makes for an interesting source of information and opinions. What's your comments on our forum, or could it be called an E-Commune.

My comments on this forum? It's probably the best one I've encountered. It's polite and self-policing, and the members herein are some of the smartest people anywhere, with diverse and extensive backgrounds, and an almost universal desire to be helpful.

Be careful, we'll get e-hippies, and then there goes the neighborhood!

+1 on what everybody has said. It's a good place to hang out.

I'm all for free wood. I'm all for peace. The only blood I'm concerned about are those nasty stains on my woodwork.

I agree with all said previously. New to the forum and have been pleasantly surprised with all member's attitudes & willingness to provide assistance to fellow members.

Thanks to everyone for making this a nice place to learn & better ourselves.

This is the worst board I've ever encountered!

And the fact that I can say that in the middle of the thread and not get flamed just proves how wrong I am in that statement

All jokes aside, I don't know how it happened, but this is as close to a perfect community online as I've ever come across. Everyone here is helpful, everyone here is smart, etc. While we stay away from political discussion and such- what's great is that we can still approach that line from time to time, have debate on heated subjects, and come back 2 minutes later to a different thread where the person who you probably ticked off is right there to help you. You won't find that ANYWHERE else online.

Now, I just wish I had more time to be here!

In a word, HELPFUL. What has impressed me about this forum is exactly that. Not just on woodworking issues but with personal issues as well. This site has a real family feel to it unlike some others. I think I'll post my first Poll.

I think this forum is probably the least intimidating I've ever joined. Other forums usually have "old-timers" who tend to be cliquish and regard the forum as their royal domain, creating a tier system of sorts. I never felt that in this forum.

Yep, you guys are really cool.

It's the first place on the web I check in in the morning - even before I review the network logs! It is the closest to a true online family I've ever seen - scratch that - I actually think we are already there!

Sam, Adele and the moderators have laid out the framework for an awesome thing - and the rest of you guys and gals have brought it to reality. Thanks to all...

i am not an internet person, infact i actually held out till about 2000 to get an email. even though in college, we had all the internet that one could want didnt even bother with it. having said this, this is the only site that i visit and am a participating memeber of. i love the discussions we have at times and even on touchy issues, i like it that people pour out their hearts but dont get heart burns. like jseklund said, we just come back to help one another out no matter what.

i think that sam and adele (not too sure about the sites history yet) have set up a wonderful place where everyone is contributing to what ever extent we with only one goal in mind: help one anther!

                      regards,

This was the first forum I lurked on and then joined. Based on my experience here, I assumed most all internet forums were mature, open places for creative exchange. I ventured over to a few other woodworking forums, then to other sites for other interests. While I still lurk on a few others, I've yet to find one as accomodating, polite, mature, and helpful as this one.

Thanks to Sam & Adele, and all of you for making this what has to be the best online community out there

As one of the 'charter' members that were invited over from the old Ryobi forum by Sam, I have watched his idea grow and flourish into one of the best on-line families one could imagine.

We have some problems from time to time. With any group this large that is to be expected. Sam and the mods have made sure those problems stayed in the minor range. I can only think of one member that went away mad.

How true. Let us not forget the creators of this forum and the hard work that went into establishing and maintaining the forum. Kudos to the poster police (moderators) for doing a great job as well.
