10 Most magnificent trees of the world.

    Link here

A bit 'USA / California' centric, but great pictures.

Incredible that there's a tree that's alive since 288 BC!!! !! Must be the oldest living thing!

edit : no, the Methuselah is the oldest, at 4838 years. Now I have heard it all...

I'd never seen #1, the Baobab until, an episode of "Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe" in Madagascar. Very cool. I too have a collection of tree photos so I can relate (even if there are a few too many California ones in this particular list).

Isn't it neat that our interest is not just in dead trees?

Until recently, the biggest quaking poplar in Wisconsin was on our block...then somebody discovered a bigger one. In the process of researching this, I found out that there are all kinds of Big Tree programs. Kind of like fish records or bird watching, and a great family activity.

Here's the national site that provides more info and lists each state's contact (though to get a web page you may have to search google for 'big tree Arkansas', etc). There's a link to the National Big Tree register, kids' activities and more.

Wisconsin BT'ers--our state has an especially lively Champion Tree program--this site gives info and has a list of the champion trees by species and location. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/forestry/uf/champion/
