    Free Oil Change

I took the van to my mechanic yesterday for an oil change, A/C service and to find the coolant leak. The leak was the water pump so I had him change the timing belt and the thermostat while he had the system drained. He had problems with the radiator petcock and getting it to not leak after he closed it. He ended up replacing an O-ring on it.

He called this morning to say he was giving me a free oil change because he felt bad charging me for the 1/2 hr figuring out the petcock problem. Said it should not have taken him as long as it did to figure it out. I refused but he inisisted and said if I paid him the next time, he'd just keep discounting the bill until I accepted.

Sounds like your mechanic is a good guy. I suspect you have a long relationship with him. Unfortunately, it's pretty tough to find mechanics that don't leave you feeling like you're getting taken for a ride half the time.

You better keep him, another may have charged you for an hour or wanted to replace the radiator all together.

That's incredible...would you have your mechanic call my mechanic and explain the way things work?!
