We do. Use it almost every day it seems. Haven't wasted a single bite of cheese since we started using it. In fact, we pretty much wore out the first one years ago and the current one is about 2 years old. Both are the Tila brand.
Wonderful machine.
Rememer though...anything that gives off a gas doesn't work too well. I'm talking about food items here. Such as onions, cabbage, etc. It seals them, but the vacuum is canceled by the gas given off.
Also, you may want to invest in some of the vacuum containers. We use one for bagged letuce.
Another use we get out of it is when we make a batch of veg soup or chile soup. After the soup cools down I use the mason jar attachment and seal up the remaining soup in quart jars. Stays that way for weeks in the frig.
And finally, the cheaper bags work about as well as the Tilla brand.
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?
We use the FoodSaver to vacuum seal and freeze stuff from the garden. Tonight we put up some beans and okra. Moist items need to be soft fozen before sealing so that the moisture will not interfere with the sealing process. Things we froze last year had no freezer burn and were very fresh all through the winter and early summer. Also, we blanch most vegitables before freezing.
The faster I grow it, catch it or buy it, the faster I eat it, so freezer storage rarely enters the equation, except when I catch a nice tuna or grouper, or a buddy shoots something. Then I use those double-walled freezer bags, and nothing has to sit for long.
We use one. Bought the rolls of material that you have to cut, seal, insert item and seal the other end. If you do that, make sure you cut the material large enough for the item. A certain person around here sometimes try to save a little material and ends up wasting the whole thing. Works great, since we are just two it makes it easy to buy meat in a family pack and then split it up and freeze it in the right portions.
