After 28 (?) years of marrage, I found that to assure self-survival, the less the wife knows about unimportant things, the longer I'll live.

That sounds like my house Ken. In fact a scene similar to that has been played here.

        go figure....

Well, I've come to the conclusion that women just don't think like men do
about most situations and how to solve them. Let her rant and rave all she wants to about it, while you walk out the door to the shop all the while ignoring her comments and go on your merry way and forget about it!

When I want some peace and quiet and time to think....I go to the shop and
and indulge my mind in more intelligent, constructive things than wasting time listening to a woman mouth off about something silly. If she persists in
ranting and raving after a couple of hours have passed, give her the silent treatment for a day or so....she will eventually shut up! most do! eezlock

With all due respect, Eez, are you married?

I thought I knew all there was to know about marriage and raising children until I had both...

            Ken,

I will be married 5 years next month. I've learned 2 things:

            1. The less she knows about unimportant (to her) stuff the better. So when she says fix the tire, just fix it. Don't tell her how it gets done, she normally wouldn't care.

            2. When she gives instructions, follow them even if you don't agree. To avoid her giving instructions, see #1.

So your best course would have been just to go ahead and fix the tire and not tell her you are going to fix it yourself. Next best would have been to keep the 20.00, fix it and not say how it got fixed - don't ask, don't tell. Next best, if she asks, would have been to keep the 20.00, fix it and tell her you took it to the store.
            David

LOML and I have been married almost 42 years. Guess what it doesn't change, I thought it might after Menopause, wrong, no change. I just let it roll off my back, if it is not important, and she knows when to stop pushing the buttons. Your right women do think differently than men. She doesn't care how things get done just as long as they are done soon. She has had a hard time learning after I retired and then 2 years later she retired that I do things when I want, how want, and in some cases if I want. And I do not go shoping at the mall period, also a peanut butter and jam sandwich is fine for lunch not Applebe's or Marie Calanders. Don't get me wrong we do a lot of thing together but I have my limits.

I think I would have told her, that I found out the valve stem was loose (as simple as a screwdriver, no charge), or said, thanks hon, it's fixed.
I to still prefer the patch, but I do see a wide variance of prices, from $8 on up to $21 locally.

I think the one time LOML was the most angry with me, was when I chased down a robber outside my office. Here I was walking down the street, on my way to court, in a three piece suit and carrying a briefcase, when I saw a young man grab the gold chains from an old man's neck and knock him to the ground.

Boy does that bring back memories. Only time I've ever been arrested. I chased after a guy that I thought hit my bosses truck (should have seen him jump the curb and it shaking). Heard the sirens but I chased after him until I was blinded by a bright light, then had a 40 caliber in the face, while the perp evaded. They caught me (still in my work uniform, just left work by 50 feet) and stopped the search until one of the cops I knew id'd me.
Then they proceeded to tell me how they found his ammo and one gun in the car and wasn't I afraid of dying. To which they were taken aback when I said "no, we are all going to go sometime".
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

When I was a lot younger, I could never understand why my dad would just sit there and let my mother go off on him at times. After 42 "glorious" years of being with the LOML, I have come to understand. I know my sons wonder the same thing about me at times. They too will understand someday.

"yes dear" is probably the best answer of all time. Then do it the way you intended to do it in the first place.
