Several years ago, LOML and I visited some of her relatives in Newport News, Virginia. We went to Gloucester and while there found a very interesting looking restaurant sitting back off the road. It was called Seawell's Ordinary.
The menu offered "Buffalo Burgers". Being the first time I've actually seen this item on a menu, and I've seen hundreds of menus, decided to try it. The menu also had an interesting story that was almost a page long on it's history. It was built as a house in 1712, and turned into a restaurant in 1757. It became a meeting place during the Civil War for military officers. It operated as a restaurant until 1871, when it was returned to a residence until 1948. It was then turned back into a restaurant until last January when it closed and the owner has it up for sale. Here is a write-up for more details.
Getting back to the Buffalo Burger. Some restaurants have names for food that don't really tell you what the heck you are eating, like "Mountain Oysters". But I have to say, my Buffalo Burger was fantastic. Very tasty.
For some reason I don't remember getting a menu from this unique place. Either they wouldn't give it away, couldn't buy it, or unable to take it. But, if you want a documented piece of history, and don't save menus, the place is for sale, including 11 acres, if you have an extra $1.5 million. Might be as much fun to own as the dinghy George Washington paddled across the Potomac.
